Came here for an early Father's Day meal with the fam. We ordered some cold appies (Cheng Kong pork and mutton served with sauce), rice cakes with pork and veggies, steamed dumplings, pan fried buns, half of a smoked duck, and egg whites with broccoli.
Starting with the Cheng Kong pork, which has been well done every time we've ordered it... cut into rectangular cubes, one part of the cube consists of a jelly like substance and the rest is similar to a ham. Light and a great way to start off the meal. The mutton slices were a bit disappointing however - quite tasteless unless dipped in the sauce, which then overpowered the meat. Would probably not re-order this one. The rice cakes were average and arrived near the end of the meal so it wasn't enjoyed as much as it deserved as everyone was just too full! The steamed dumplings were unfortunately not piping hot but just lukewarm.. which was in stark contrast to the pan fried buns, which almost burned my mouth when I bit into it! Everyone agree the highlight of the night was the smoked duck - you could really taste the sweet smoky flavour in the duck and the texture was juicy and substantial. Finally, the egg whites with broccoli - this was an interesting dish that isn't usually seen in most restaurants. It was light and a nice palate refresher after all the heavy meat dishes.
Onto the service... Almost everyone has commented on the lack thereof or horrible service they've received at this restaurant. I have to say that while the service is hit and miss, I've never experienced horrible service at the restaurant. Yes, this place can get crazy busy (and crazy LOUD - I think the acoustics are just horrible) and things might get missed, but I don't think it deserves the horrible reviews it's been getting. Let's be honest, service has never been an area that Chinese restaurants have been well-known for. I just come here for the food, mediocre hit/miss service, and leave it at that.
Dinner came to just under $100 for the four of us and it left us stuffed! Good deals to be had here, give it a chance :) -

First time here. Had the XLB regular pork and one with crab with green onion pancake.. It was quite busy for the weekend during lunch time. Decent food for decent price! Not sure what they were known for here but I'd come back again to try other dishes.

Came here for a family dinner in a Sunday night and the restaurant was pretty busy. There are a decent number parking but because how busy the restaurant can get the parking lot can get full a lot of the times, so do come earlier or be prepared to look for parking. The food here is pretty good and has nice variety of dishes to choose from. Our table ordered one of the set menus and dishes included a vegetable fishball soup, a set of side dishes that included marinated cold meat, bean curd, and chicken, Peking duck, steamed dumplings, braised squid, chicken stew, and crab with rice cake. Everything had a lot of flavour and my favorite was the crab with rice cake! The sauce on the crab and rice cakes just worked so well together! Unlike most chinese restaurants there are no desserts included in the set menu. Overall a good place for lunch or dinner for some standard chinese /shanghai food!

Mixed review for this place.
The spicy beef noodle soup was good, not overly spicy at all. Enjoyed the steamed vegetable dumplings, fresh!
Underwhelming XLB despite reviews that I've read. Lack lustre shrimp and pork dumplings.
Ambiance is 1/5: restaurant is in an old hotel; old decor in need of a good reno; poor lighting; old table and chairs; felt dirty. My plate was chipped.
Service was good.
Free parking in hotel parking lot; just don't park in front of the suites.
Overall, 2.5 stars. -

Came in for a family lunch on a holiday. Must make reservations as the place was pretty full by 11:30! The food service was quick. Staff were not friendly but they got the job done
The soy milk (savoury style) was not bad but could use a bit more flavor with the pickled veggies, more dried shrimp. I am not sure of this is their style but the chinese donut was already soaking in the soybean milk, all soggy (other places garnish this on top)
The portion of the pan fried thick Shanghai noodle with pork and cabbage was a bit small for the price
The steamed xiao long bao dumplings were pretty good. Juicy and fresh.
My favourite today was the Shredded Chicken with noodle. This dish is more of an appy that is served chilled. The bottom is layered with noodle sheets, then topped with sesame sauce and cucumber garnish. The noodles were smooth and silky, very delish!
The turnip cakes were not bad but I would prefer a sauce to dip it with
It may have an after taste for some people but I am okay with it
The Fried Rock fish in Sweet and Sour sauce was my least favourite because the meat tasted very fishy
Parking on street level is limited as the restaurant shares the lot with the Best Western hotel. But lots of free underground parking.
